                PISCATAQUA FISH AND GAME CLUB

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR USE OF FIRING RANGE

                                                Revised August 2014

No one is allowed to use either the Rifle or Archery ranges until they have completed Range Orientation, and acknowledge their receipt and understanding of the Range rules in writing. A stamped membership card and/or the possession of a range rule acknowledgement sheet signed by a Range committee representative will document your attendance.

Member will keep a copy of the Range rules.

BREAKING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING RULES WILL RESULT IN SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION.

    1.      SAFETY is our constant, bottom line, number one consideration here at this club.

    2.      Eye and ear protection as well as hats, are mandatory for all shooters and guests. This is for personal safety and because Club insurance requires them.

    3.      No alcohol or drugs on the range and no intoxicated person shall use the range.

    4.      To use this Range you must be a member in good standing and you must display your current, orientation-stamped membership card. If you don’t see one on your fellow shooter, ask him to produce it or leave. If possible, get his name, license number, and description, BUT DON’T GET INTO A CONFRONTATION WITH ANYONE.

Pick up your gear if you don’t feel safe, leave the firing line and call one of the numbers inside the clubhouse door.

    5.   Individual members may bring no more than two guests at one time, and MEMBERS

          ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR GUESTS.

Before using the Range, all members and their guests must review the Range Rules

next to the sign-in book. Guests must also read and sign the club liability waiver.

When you sign in, you acknowledge that you understand, and will respect, these

Range Rules. Please print your name and your guests names clearly so we can read it.

Enter time in – time out, A for archery, R for firearms range and “other” for ANY

          OTHER OUTDOOR CLUB ACTIVITY.

    6.      RED flag must be displayed on pole before using the firing range.

YELLOW flag is displayed for archery.

ORANGE flag is displayed for all other outdoor activity, and please print when you sign in where you will be, so everyone is aware of where you are.

    7.   All firearms going to and from the firing line will be empty of brass, shells or

ammunition and unless boxed, cased or holstered, actions will be open and ECI

inserted. Muzzles will be pointed in a safe direction (upward).

    8.       NRA basic firing line commands are used at this club.

CLEAR: Is the firing line CLEAR? Call this command loudly as people will have ear protection on.

Make visual contact with all other shooters to be sure everyone acknowledges the call for CLEAR. All firearms will be cleared of any ammunition, actions open, ECI (empty chamber indicator) inserted in chamber.

ALL firearms will now be moved off the firing line and placed on storage racks.

Now the red lights will be switched on and we are free to go forward of the firing line to change targets etc.

No one will handle firearms in any way while the red lights are on or while anyone is downrange.

READY: When we are SURE everyone is back behind the firing line, the red range lights are turned off. No one goes forward of the firing line when the lights are off.

Firearms may now be returned to the firing line.

Bring only one firearm at a time to the firing line.

READY can now be called. Is the firing line READY? Again check with all shooters

for READY. See that everyone has ear and eye protection on. Shooting may now

          resume.

CEASE FIRE: CEASE FIRE means that there is an emergency at the firing line.     Quick action must be taken. When CEASE FIRE is called all shooters will place their

firearms IMMEDIATELY on the shooting bench, muzzles pointed downrange, and

step back away from the bench. Anyone can and must call CEASE FIRE when

anything unusual or unsafe is happening, or is about to happen.

When the problem has been resolved, the shooters will step forward to the firing line

and either clear their firearms or prepare for Ready.

    9.      All targets will be arranged so that all projectiles will pass through the target without

hitting the target stands, and enter the backstop without hitting the ground. No projectiles shall exit the range boundaries.

All shooting will be done in the direction perpendicular to the firing line. No cross bay shooting.

    No aerial targets are allowed.

No steel targets are allowed except at CSE (club sanctioned events).

Shoot only at club approved targets. Besides paper targets these include tin cans, clays and soft plastic bottles or jugs placed safely on the backstop. Please take all trash with you when you leave. Don’t fire shot shells at target frames. This is needless destruction of club property.

Don’t shoot faster than you can acquire (or reacquire) your sights on target. This is not safe. No quick draw except at CSE.

Don’t shoot at hard, fragmental objects (glass, rocks, aerosol cans, golf balls. Etc.).

    No shooting at the ground.

No incendiary, tracers or illegal rounds allowed. No exploding targets.

All firearms not in immediate use will be safely stored or placed on the storage racks behind the firing line.

    10.  When loading or unloading all muzzles will be pointed downrange and into the

backstop. The only exception to this is when reloading a muzzle loader. Prime

or cap muzzle loaders only after loading and ready to shoot. NO SMOKING WHILE HANDLING BLACK POWDER.

    11.  Keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot.

    12.  No shooting allowed as follows:

On Sundays before noon except at club sanctioned events.

During club rental activities or non-shooting CSE.

Before 8AM and ½ hour after sunset unless a CSE.

Check the club website calendar https://www.piscataqua-club.orgor http://piscataquafishgame.wildapricot.org for events that may cause the range to be closed.

    13.  The Range shall be used only when there is an adult member (18 years or older) in

good standing present and in direct supervision of any juniors.

    14.  Shooters shall pick up all their spent casings, targets and trash.

Carry out what you carry in, and always try to leave the Range better than you found it.

    15.  Shooting firearms always involves risk. TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED. If you’re not absolutely sure that what you are doing is safe, DON’T DO IT.

ABSOLUTELY NO UNSAFE HANDLING OF FIREARMS WILL BE TOLERATED.

PLEASE READ AND REREAD THESE RULES UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND THEM THOROUGHLY.

    RANGE SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY.
